Tragic: A toddler is in an extremely serious condition in hospital after falling from a hotel balcony in Limerick

A boy is in an extremely serious condition in hospital after falling from a hotel balcony in Limerick yesterday afternoon. The child is understood to be between 2 and 3 years of age. It’s emerged the boy fell from the sixth floor balcony of the Strand Hotel on the Ennis Road part of the City.

Emergency services, including an ambulance, gardai and fire brigade were on the scene within minutes.
The child is understood to have received medical assistance from a local doctor at the scene before the arrival of the emergency services.
The boy, who is understood to be from Limerick, was rushed by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick. Gardaí have described his condition as serious.

It has emerged that the 6th floor of the hotel is for functions and business meetings only – it is not currently known how the child managed to make his way to this particular area of the hotel.

Gardaí are carrying out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
