Tragic: All 3 coast guard crew members are still missing this afternoon




Captain Dara Fitzpatrick is the only crew member of Rescue 116 to be recovered from the its wreckage yesterday.

The devastating flight left Dublin at 11pm Monday night and went off radar at 1am Tuesday morning.

A major search operation ensued early yesterday morning and, besides Dara’s body being found, search workers were unable to locate the other 3 crew members of the helicopter.

The search operation for the remaining three missing Irish Coast Guard crew members continued to a degree through the night, but went full scale again at first light this morning with divers and scanning equipment being brought in.

The three other crew on board have been named as Chief Pilot Mark Duffy and winchmen Paul Ormsby and Ciarán Smith.

The Irish Coast Guard operations manager as declared the disaster to be a “dark day” for the Irish Coast Guard.
