Tragic: Australian lifeguards on red-alert after a teenage girl is mauled to death by a shark

Australian lifeguards are on red-alert this week after a teenage girl was mauled to death by a shark at Wylie Bay on Australia’s southwest coast.

17-yr-old Laeticia Brouwer was surfing with her father when the shark attacked. Her father lost a leg but still managed to bring the girl ashore – albeit the damage had been done.

She was brought to hospital in the Western Australian town of Esperance where she sadly died from her injuries.

Her mother and two younger sisters witnessed the attack from the beach and ran for help.

Paramedics told The West Australian newspaper:

“The girl’s father had been some distance away at the time of the attack and heard her scream before she was pulled under water by the shark,”

“When she resurfaced, her father paddled over and dragged her to the shore with the help of another teenager.”
