The Department of Foreign Affairs have confirmed in the past hour that an Irishman has tragically died in the Maldives.
It is understood the man who was on holidays died at a popular resort earlier today. According to TV3 News the man sadly died after he got into difficulty whilst swimming.
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs has said they are aware of the incident and they are currently in liaison with authorities in the Maldives.
They also say they have offered to provide counseling assistance to the man’s family.
