There was some sad news announced this afternoon as police authorities in Italy have confirmed that the body of an Irish pensioner has been recovered from the base of a cliff on Thursday.
It is understood the Irishman aged 79 fell from the cliff side whilst on pilgrimage in Modigliana, near Bologna in the northeast of the country on Wednesday evening.
The alarm was raised after the man failed to return with his group who were walking in the region on Wednesday evening.
According to local reports, the body of the missing Irishman was recovered by firefighters and local police at the base the steep cliff following a lengthy search of the area in the early hours of Thursday morning.
