Police in the UK have sadly confirmed that a five year old girl has died after she was dragged out to sea whilst out enjoying a dip in the sunshine with her mother.
The heartbreaking incident which occurred in the popular Durdle Door spot in Dorset, came as beach goers were enjoying the unusual high temperatures and sunshine on Britain’s south coast.
It is believed the young girl lost her life after the strong current left her and her mother stranded from the coastline as they were enjoying a dip at the popular beach.
According to media reports in the UK, onlookers were left horrified by the events that unfolded before them as rescue teams rushed to the scene in an effort to save the pair from the cold waters.
Police say they were alerted to the incident shortly after 11:30am on Wednesday morning.
Although the girl’s mother was rescued by a brave member of the public, the little girl tragically got swept out further despite the best efforts to save her.
It is reported that the little girl was eventually rescued by a military boat that had been undertaking a training exercise in they area.
However despite being transferred to the nearby Dorset County Hospital, she was sadly prounced dead upon arriving at the hospital.
Officers investigating the incident say they are currently treating the little girl’s death as a tragic accident, although they have issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward.
