Tragic: Gardaí confirm a man’s body has been discovered at Quay Island in the Shannon Estuary south of Bunratty




Gardaí in Co Clare have confirmed that a body has been recovered after large search took place for a man who has been missing since Saturday.

It is understood the man’s remains w found at approximately 11.20am this at Quay Island in the Shannon Estuary south of Bunratty. The discovery comes after search and rescue teams along with the help of a number of volunteers, conducted a search for the man believed to be aged in his 50s on Saturday afternoon.

They were also aided by the Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter, along with volunteers from the Killaloe, Doolin and Kilkee units of the Irish Coast Guard were also brought in to help. Later, members of Clare Civil Defence and the Limerick Land Search Team joined the operation while the Kilrush RNLI lifeboat was also tasked to the scene to carry out a water search.

However tragically the search was called off this morning following confirmation that a body had been discovered. The person believed to be a man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and he was later brought to University Hospital Limerick where a postmortem will take place this evening.
