Gardai in Co Galway have sadly confirmed that a man aged in his 40s has died after he got into difficulties whilst swimming in Lough Derg on Tuesday evening.
It is understood the man got into difficulties whilst swimming in the lake at around 6pm on Tuesday evening, however despite a widespread search operation the man’s body was recovered from the water at Cappasallagh, Portumna at around 10pm last night.
Gardai say the man’s body has since been taken to Portiuncula Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.
