There was some tragic news on new year’s day as the mother of The Pogues singer Shane MacGowan died in a road accident in Co Tipperary.
It is understood Therese MacGowan, aged 87, became the first road death victim of 2017, after her car struck a wall at Ballintoher, near Nenagh yesterday afternoon.
Gardaí have confirmed an investigation is ongoing regarding the tragic accident.
