Authorities in North Carolina have confirmed that a three month old baby has died as the death toll from Storm Florence has risen to 17.
In announcement authorities confirmed that the infant died after a tree fell through a mobile home in Gaston County.
It is believed the infants parents were in the mobile home at the time of the incident but they were unhurt.
Meanwhile authorities in South Carolina also confirmed that three other people had been sadly killed in weather related road traffic accidents.
The latest fatalities come after winds reaching 140mph combined with heavy rainfall hit the region over the weekend.
Although the storm has since been officially downgraded, authorities say heavy rain is expected cause widespread flooding in the region over the coming days which could potentially pose further threat to life.
