Transatlantic flight diverted to Shannon Airport after man suffers suspected heart attack




A transatlantic flight had to be diverted to Shannon Airport this afternoon after a passenger suffered a suspected heart attack onboard.

The flight which was Austrian Airlines flight OS-93 was believed to be travelling from Vienna, Austria to Washington in the US.

According to reports the flight had just flown over the Mayo coast at around midday when the crew were forced to turn back after a medical emergency was declared.

The flight quickly turned around and landed at approximately 12.30pm after air traffic control granted permission for it to land.

The ill man was taken to University Hospital Limerick, it is not known what condition the man is in.
