Tributes are pouring in for Joe McCluskey who was the parish priest of Killanny, Co. Monaghan.

Fr McCluskey had been out visiting the sick and elderly in his parish when tragically he was killed in a car crash at the well known Top petrol station on the way into Castleblaney on the N2 Dublin to Derry road.

The 78-yr-old cleric’s car crashed into an articulated lorry on Wednesday evening.

Locals say they are shocked and saddened at the tragic news. One Carrickmacross resident told The Liberal:
“The entire county is shocked and saddened. Fr Joe was a very popular, likable sociable man who was out literally doing God’s work when he called him home”.
