Tributes pour in for two Galway women who were killed from freak accident while out on a walking

Tributes have poureed in for Ballinasloe locals Deirdre Kilmartin and Maureen Dooley who were killed on Thursday evening while out walking in the town.

Both ladies were aged in their 50s with Maureen married with three children and Deirdre married with two children.

Maureen Dooley taught maths at the Marist College in Athlone and Deirdre Kilmartin worked at a veterinary health centre in Ballinasloe town which both held their own marks of respect by a prayer service in the school and the vet centre closing yesterday.

Sadly, both women sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene at around 5:30pm when two cars crashed and one veered into the two women.

The local community said they two women were well known and very well liked.
