True Hero: Limerick man receives great praise for his heroics after stopping a man from jumping into the River Shannon




A Limerick man has received great praise for his heroics after he stopped another man from jumping into the River Shannon in the city last night.

The young man believed to be in his 20s was walking along Harvey’s Quay at approximately 6.20pm when he suddenly seen the other maw, also understood to in his 20s, attempting to jump into the river. However tge heroic man somehow managed to pull the man back from the edge, and held him until emergency services arrived.

A spokesperson for the emergency services said: “He’s a hero. He did a great job holding onto the man until the emergency services arrived.” “Limerick Fire and Rescue Service launched their rescue boat ‘FireSwift’ within four minutes of receiving the call, however its services weren’t required.” Before adding: “Ground crews of the Fire Service assisted HSE paramedics and gardaí with attending to the man who tried to enter the river.”

The man was later taken to University Hospital Limerick where he underwent medal treatment.
