It is very rare that the Irish public get to see the Northern Lights in all its glory, however the residents of the Aran Islands were treated to the spectacle yesterday morning and one lucky photographer on the island of Inis Oírr captured the amazing scenes all on his camera.
Local schoolteacher, Cormac Coyne captured these amazing photos early yesterday morning which quickly became a hit on social media . Mr Coyne took the photos at approximately 1am on June 23, using O’Brien’s castle as the focal point of his backdrop. Mr Coyne said he took the photos using Canon 7D camera and an f2.8 lens, mounted on a tripod to facilitate long exposures of up to 15 seconds.
Mr Coyne who teaches Science and Maths at a local school said he took up the art of photography as a hobbie and was amazed by the reaction his photos got on social media. Mr Coyne explained of his passion of photography saying: “I love photographing landscapes, nature, wildlife and the world around me and have recently tried my hand at astrophotography.” He added: “Living out here on the Aran Islands gives me infinite possibilities to develop my interest in photography further.”
I think we can all agree that these photos are truly amazing.
