Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s first official meeting with newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump will be on St. Patrick’s Day 2017.
The invitation follows Kenny’s 10 minute phonecall congratulations to the controversially elected 45th President of the United States yesterday.
Traditionally, the Taoiseach travels to the White House for St. Patrick’s Day, handing over a bowl of shamrock.
Mr Trump has already confirmed that, “in the spirit of the strong ties between the two countries”, he wishes for the tradition to continue.
