RTE’s long serving TV and Radio presenter Ryan Tubridy has revealed in a recent interview that he has quit using social media because he receives relentless abuse about his work online.

Tubridy who is no stranger to criticism especially during his time as host of The Late Late Show, revealed that he fell out of love with social media as it provided nothing but harsh and unfair criticism.

The presenter who was speaking to TV Now Magazine said that he “won’t take sh**te” on Twitter but he is open to engaging with the public on the street as long as they provide constructive criticism.

In the detailed interview with the Magazine the Radio One presenter said: “I’m not on Twitter, so I don’t read the comments and I don’t go looking for them because you’re only setting yourself up for an unpleasant experience.”

“So I will listen to the people that matter, the ones I meet in the supermarket in Clonakilty or Clifden who will say no to that, yes to
that.”

“I’ll take constructive criticism but I won’t take “sh*te.”

“I’ll have a beer after the show and one of the guys will say, ‘they went wild for this’ or ‘they didn’t like your man,’ so we hear it.”

“I prefer to listen to people on the street when we take the radio show out around the country, rather than random messages.”

Tubridy was speaking to the magazine ahead  of the new season of The Late Late Show which is expected to return to our screens on Friday September 1st.
