The controversial Turkish President Recep Erdogan opened one of the largest Mosque’s in Europe in the German city of Cologne on Saturday, Breitbart reports.
The Turkish leader is visiting Germany in an attempt to resolve some tense issues between the two countries over Turkey’s human rights record.
Germany is home to a massive Turkish origin population, many of whom after several generations still identify more as Turkish than German. This has caused tensions in the country particularly between ethnic Turks and Kurds.
The new so-called Mega Mosque in Cologne will cater to the city’s burgeoning Muslim population which is also rapidly rising across the country due to migration and birth rates.
President Erdogan has even encouraged Turkish families to have multiple children in EU countries to change their demographics, the Telegraph reports.
