Two British teens arrested on suspicion of stealing items from Auschwitz camp

arbeit

According to Polish police officers, two British nationals were detained on Monday after allegedly stealing items from the former death camp.

The officers said the pair were seen “digging” in the ground around the area where barracks once stood.

When questioned, police found they were in possession of shards of glass, buttons, a hair clipper, and metal chippings.

Reports from local sources say that the Britons have been released without charge, and have received suspended sentences.

Smuggling items from the historic site can carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

About one million European Jews lost their lives at the camp, and more than 100,000 others perished in dreadful conditions at the site.
