UK’s biggest toy retailer Toys R Us removes its gender-bias catalogue system on their online store

The UK’s biggest toy retailer Toys R Us has confirmed that they are encouraging people to shop for non gender specific toys in their stores this Christmas.

The company’s call comes after they became the latest retailer to remove all gender-bias filters from their UK website. According to media reports, the company elected to remove the stereotype after a number of parents complained that the company’s current model discouraged children from playing with specific toys. The move will now see the retailer catalogue their online store by children’s age group, toy brand or the type of toy they’re after.

The company’s decision to remove gender-bias follows in the footsteps of fellow retail giants like Marks & Spencer, Boots, Tesco and Sainsbury’s who recently adopted a unisex approach to marketing their products aimed at children.
