A number of gym owners around the country are refusing to close their doors arguing that their businesses are essential to people’s physical and mental health.

Blanchardstown’s Westside Gym announced that they would defy the government’s Orwellian Level Five Lockdown and keep their doors open saying on their social media accounts “we want to do what’s best for our members and their mental health.”

A number of other gyms are said to be following suit while more are considering keeping their doors open to members in defiance of the capriciousness of the government.

Indeed, the government is yet to offer any reason for closing down gyms in this new lockdown and gyms had been open for a number of months before the spike in cases came following the reopening of schools.

Schools will, however, remain open.

With the last lockdown a spike in people seeking mental health assistance as well as a spike in suicides was recorded and physical exorcise, as well improving the health of ones body and immune system is also known to have significant benefits for one’s mental wellbeing.

“Our ‘government’ have shown a total disregard for your mental health. The rising number of Covid-19 cases are NOT coming from gyms and we think it is very unfair that this has been overlooked.
Dark days, dark nights and dark minds.
Please mind your mental health in these times.”

However, late on Wednesday night, the operator of the Dublin gym announced that they too would in fact be closing after he had two gardai visits. Watch the video below:
