The University of Limerick have confirmed that they will be giving Vicky Phelan an honorary doctorate in recognition of her efforts to improve women’s healthcare.
Ms Phelan who bravely shared her story after settling a High Court case against a US laboratory who issued her with incorrect smear test results back in 2011.
In an announcement made this week University Limerick said they will award Ms Phelan with an honorary doctorate in recognition of her exceptional commitment to improving women’s healthcare in Ireland.
Ms Phelan has been widely praised after she bravely highlighted her case in recent weeks.
Although the terminally ill cervical cancer patient never intended to release her story to the public, Ms Phelan has been commended for her bravery as her case along with other misdiagnosed cases has prompted a full into the CervicalCheck programme.
To date a total of 209 women have been affected by the scandal.
