There’s been consternation and uproar after it emerged a left wing politician spoke against flying our national flag for fear of upsetting foreign nationals.

A Solidarity Party County Councillor from Blanchardstown, Matthew Waine has spoken out against flying the national flag as it could be offensive to foreign nationals.

According to the Dublin Gazette, the Fingal County Councillor opposed a motion by Sinn Fein Councillor Daire Ni Laoi to fly the tri-colour over the county council offices in Swords.

Waine would prefer if flags representing the LGTBQ or Traveller community were flown rather than the flag of Ireland, which is now offensive to some extreme adherents of political correctness.

However, many have expressed shock that an Irish politician would oppose flying the flag that so many of our forefathers fought and died for the right to fly in an independent Ireland.

Expressing their disgust that Waine’s words were disgusting and downright moronic and his party will pay for them at the next election.

Waine also suggest that the Red flag of Marxism fly instead, however some Fingal residents have suggested this is disrespectful to the tens of millions of victims of the totalitarian ideology or to the many Eastern European nationals in Fingal whose families suffered under communism.
