There’s been consternation on social media over how a 19-yr-old thug with 31 previous convictions simply strolled out of court with probation after he tried to smashed a garda in the face and then threatened arresting gardai with infecting them with HIV.

Social media users are saying that “this country is a joke” and that if anything, the judge should have been put in jail rather than the thug himself, having only given him that measly verdict.

In another bizarre and unusual act of leniency a 19-year-old man, with 31 previous convictions, has walked free from court after he was convicted of a breaching the peace for threatening Gardai and telling them he would infect them with HIV.

According to the Herald, Brandon Shumba was handed an 8-month suspended sentence for two years by Judge Cormac Dunne at Swords District Court for his breach of the peace at Daly’s Lane Rush, on April 27th last year.

According to the Herald, Sgt Terri Ferguson, Gardai responded to the scene after reports of the man acting aggressively.

Upon arriving at the scene, the Herald reports that Shumba told the responding Gardai to “ring gardai in Ballymun” so they could “tell you how violent I can be”.

The Gardai were forced to spray Shumba with mace to subdue him.

According to the Herald, Shumba’s defence told the court that the 19-year-old suffers a “relatively serious” condition which “impacts on his behaviour”.

The Herald reports that the presiding Judge Dunne said Shumba’s behaviour had imposed a significant danger to the safety of gardai. This case appears in the Herald here.
