The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has insisted the Dáil’s summer recess is not a holiday and he has moved swiftly to remind people that the country’s politicians will be still working hard during this period.

According to The Sun newspaper, Mr Varadkar said that he and other Government officials will be working on key issues over the next two months.

Mr Varadkar also said he will be attending a number of European meetings in Brussels, whilst his colleagues will be attending to affairs within their departments.

The Taoiseach also stated that he and his fellow ministers will be heading back to their constituencies to handle local matters.

It is understood Mr Varadkar’s comments come after the Dáil held its final sitting on Thursday before heading on a two month summer recess.

Sitting ministers are expected to return to Leinster House until September 18th.
