The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has confirmed that an Irish citizen who was captured by forces fighting ISIS in Syria, is entitled to consular assistance.
Mr Varadkar who was speaking whilst on his trip to Mali, said that although he did not know the full details of the arrest, he was made aware of the situation.
The Taoiseach’s comments come after the Gardaí confirmed that a man who lived in Ireland a number of years ago, had been captured by forces fighting ISIS.
Mr Varadkar said that every Irish citizen around the world is entitled to consular assistance and they will get it.
