Varadkar vows to help middle income earners by eliminating zero hour contracts in the workplace

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said one of the Government’s top priorities in the upcoming term will be to remove zero hour contracts for employees in the workplace.

Mr Varadkar made the announcement during his speech to the employers’ group IBEC last night.

Addressing the onloking forum the Taoiseach said he and Government are more determined than ever to help middle income earners who feel they are being unfairly treated when it comes to pay and conditions.

According to RTE News the Taoiseach also said the legislation which will hopefully move swiftly through the Dáil will actively create a good working environment with “well-paying jobs, good conditions, and pension entitlements.”

He added this new regime will reward hardworking people who feel they “unfairly pay for everything with little in return.”
