The Social Protection Minister Leo Varadkar has said today that water charges are the fairest and only way to pay.
Mr Varadkar made his comments in the Dáil earlier today, before the publication of new report reviewing the ur of water charges. The new report which is due later this week will also outline the best course of action when it comes to dealing with the charges.
However Mr Varadkar claims doing the right thing is what’s important, saying: “What’s much more important than the Government surviving is making the right decisions by the Irish people for the future.”
“I have never been ashamed or behind the door in my view that water charges are the right thing to do no matter who is in Government for reasons of conservation, it’s the best thing for the environment, it is the fairest way to pay, because you are paying for the water you use not water that other people use or waste.”
“And it is the only way we can ensure that there is a dedicated funding stream.”
