Violence has erupted on the streets of Paris this afternoon as thousands of people descended on the Champs-Elysées to protest against rising taxes, fuel prices and the French Government.

In what have been described as ugly scenes, police have been forced to use tear gas, stun grenades and a water cannon as the yellow vest protestors broke down cordons to voice and show their anger.

It is believed the latest round of protests come as the French public have become increasingly angry over rising taxes and fuel prices in the country.

The protests which got underway earlier today saw approximately 5,500 take to the streets of Paris in yellow vests.

Although the protest campaign has no official name it is believed that the yellow vest represents motorists who must carry them whilst driving under French law.

According to French state media over 36,000 people have taken part in protests across the country as public unrest against President Macron’s government increases.
