Waste management companies agree to freeze bin charges for a year

Waste management companies that are members of the Irish Waste Management Association (IWMA) have agreed to freeze charges for a year, after fierce public backlash against proposed price hikes.

Current prices will now be held from 20th June 2016 to 1 July 2017, which means that customers will not face extra charges during the first 12 months of Pay By Weight.

Companies will provide households with a price comparison chart during this period, to show the amount of waste they are generating. This chart will supposedly aid households to understand how the prices would compare with the new Pay by Weight scheme.

Minister Simon Coveney is expected to unveil a new Government plan to deal with the bin charges issue.
