There were heated scenes in the Dáil this afternoon as Independent TD Mattie McCarth raised the issue after a couple were allegedly evicted from their home by hired ex-British military soldiers to the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
In a heated speech Mr McGrath an independent TD for Tipperary South and West Waterford, said the alleged use of ex British military soldiers by KBC bank to evict the vulnerable couple was disgrace and it should not tolerated by the Irish Government as they have no jurisdiction here.
It is understood Mr McGrath’s speech comes after a number of videos were posted on social media which showed the family being evicted from their home in Balbriggan North Co Dublin.
The videos which have seen many members of the public pledge their support to the family, were posted after the ex-military allegedly ransacked the couples home whilst trying to remove them from the premises.
Following the public outcry Mr McGrath raised the issue in the Dáil this afternoon calling on the Taoiseach and the Government to intervene and protect vulnerable families from the banks who are selling off mortgages to vulture funds.
In the video which was uploaded to Mr McGrath’s Facebook page, the Taoiseach is seen quietly observing Mr McGrath’s comments before he states that he and the Government will review the matter.
