Water charges can be abolished after Fianna Fáil receive legal advice on the issue

Fianna Fáil say the Irish Government can ban water charges as long as they adhere to current European Union laws, in regards to fair usage.

The party’s announcement comes after they challenged Fine Gael over the reintroduction of the much hated charges.

Fianna Fáil say they have sought out legal advice on the issue and say the charges can be abolished as long as the Irish Government uphold the current law by issuing fines and other sentences to those who are found guilty of excessive usage.

Fianna Fáil confirmed they have received advice from barristers Darren Lehane and Conleth Bradley in relation to Ireland’s EU obligations on water charges.

The detailed report apparently states that the European Union’s current water framework directive does not state that water charges should be made a sole entity in any state as long as they are paid through other forms of state taxation.
