Such is the reassuring statement issued by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper after the shooting incident in Ottawa yesterday that left one soldier dead.

The victm has been named as Corporal Nathan Cirillo. He was on duty at the National War Memorial when he was approached and shot dead by a lone gunman, who then ran into the Parliament building nearby and fired a volley of shots inside. Sergeant-at-arms Kevin Vickers then shot the gunman dead.

Three people were taken to hospital after the incident but have all since been released.

The suspected shooter has been identified as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, a 32 year old Islam convert with previous drug convictions.

It is unclear at this point what the motivations for the attack may have been.
