Ireland could soon be battered by a storm as strong or of stronger than Storm Ophelia, weather experts have warned.
According to experts at Joint Cyclone Center in the US, long range satellite images show that a tropical cyclone will be in area of the North Atlantic within the next fortnight.
Joint Cyclone Center say the storm is not usually in area where such formations occur.
The images released by the Center show central pressures of 943mb which is the equivalent of a category 4 hurricane .
Although no information is released on exactly where the hurricane will go, it is thought Ireland could feel its effects given its location and its velocity.
In a twitter post released this week Joint Cyclone Center said the following: “Over the next 14 days, we do not normally see the weird tropical cyclones as strong as #Ophelia form in this part of the Northern Atlantic with a central pressure of 943mb, as the same of the equivalent in Category 4 hurricanes.”
