Torrential rain throughout the day has prompted the national forecaster to issue a yellow rainfall warning for almost half the country.
The warning is in place for the provinces of Munster and Leinster, plus Counties Cavan and Monaghan. It will remain in effect until 3am tomorrow.
Localised flooding and hazardous driving conditions are expected in many areas. The rain will begin clearing eastwards towards the evening.
