It may well be Valentine’s Day, but we haven’t seen the end of the winter just yet. Met Eireann have issued a strong warning tonight that snow is on the way in the North, North East and East of the country.

Parts of Dublin have already experienced sleet this morning. One woman had to have her car towed from a church carpark in Dun Laoghaire as a result of the sleet.

The forecaster claimed tonight will be extremely cold with clear skies, with showers expected throughout the night mixed in with some hail and sleet.

Temperatures will plunge to -4c from the East coast right up to Antrim.

Winds will be moderate to fresh from the northwest bringing a widespread of severe frost and ice. Snow showers are likely in Ulster and eastern coastal counties, Met Eireann claim.

Monday will start with extreme frost making driving conditions treacherous see the clear spells with bright and sunny spells.
