Weather warnings extended until noon tomorrow as snow and freezing temperatures continue to grip the country

The current orange warning, which was due to expire at midnight tonight, has now been extended until noon tomorrow. The warning affects counties Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.

A status yellow snow-ice warning also remains in effect for Longford, Cavan, Monaghan, Galway and Roscommon.

Temperatures will drop below freezing again tonight. Tomorrow, Friday, will remain very cold and breezy.

Friday night is expected to be bitterly cold, with temperatures sinking to -4C in places. And Saturday night will be even colder, as the thermometer will go as low as -6C, creating treacherous driving conditions overnight.
