Winter is coming: Temperatures to plummet towards the end of this week

Ireland is likely to feel the first chill of winter this week, as temperatures are set to plummet towards Friday.

Today, Monday, will remain relatively mild and dry, but blustery weather will develop across Ulster and Connacht in the afternoon, and begin to spread southwards towards evening.

Tuesday and Wednesday will see outbreaks of rain, with temperatures reaching 17-18C in places.

The weather is expected to take a turn for the worse later in the week, as persistent and heavy rain will arrive around the south and east of the country, and temperatures will sink to about 10-13C.
