Winter has come down hard on Ireland this week, as temperatures as low as -3C, along with heavy rain and severe frost are forecast for the next 48 hours.
The national forecaster says that a ‘polar low’ is the culprit.
There is also a strong possibility of snowfalls across western counties between now and Saturday.
The outlook is for a cold weekend, with plenty of frost and ice formation. There will be some winter sunshine too, but it will remain cold throughout.
