As I write these lines, most TDs are probably reclining back on their favorite sofa at home, perhaps enjoying their evening cup of tea, and leafing through holiday brochures with bellies full of food and minds bursting with self-righteous glee at the prospect of enjoying 90 days of holidays this year. Who cares about the grave issues back home, when you are sipping a Margarita on a beach resort at sunset.
Seemingly unsatisfied with their recent almost 10 weeks of political indecisiveness, where they effectively had no job to go to in the morning, our ‘democratically’ elected representatives ready themselves for an extended break at the expense of the very people they are meant to represent.
You and I will have to get up every morning though, either to go to work, or bring the kids to the creche, or walk the dog. Day in and day out. But the army of (mostly) superflous TDs will have not one, nor two, but three full months of vacation, all paid by me and you. Yes, you, reading these lines.
There is a fitting quote to end this missive: ‘Hypocrisy is the scarlet letter in politics.’
