No, we’re not joking! Over 100ft of pavement in the city of Chongqing in China has been marked with special paint to direct people who just can’t take their eyes off their mobile phone. this dedicated walkway allows people cross a busy section of road without stopping texting, playing games, reading the internet or scrolling.
It’s a test-pilot for other cities in China considering doing something similar. Over 5 million new phone numbers are registered in China every WEEK, yes every week! They have a problem with people using their phones around the clock and that includes on busy streets.
The message behind the campaign is to try and make people aware of the fact they must pay more attention to streets and roads when outside the dedicated walkway. Whether it will work remains to be seen. Do you think such a pathway is needed in Ireland?
