Should yes win tomorrow, there has been much speculation from No campaigners about so-called “private abortion clinis” which they say will pop up around the Kilkenny, with some people even claiming that an area in Kilkenny has been mooted as a possible location for one of the first such clinics in the country.
They say that the overcrowding crisis in the HSE where on average 700 people are on trolleys around the country on a daily basis, that the public health service simply won’t have the capacity to facilitate abortions and private abortion clinics will appear.
However the yes side say that such clinics will not be appearing around the country, certainly not immediately. If necessary, possibly private abortions may need to be conducted if the HSE can’t handle the demand for abortion but the yes side deny private abortion clinics will not be popping up around the country for the foreseeable future.
