Yesterday was officially the hottest day of the year so far

The thermometer hit 26.1C, thus making the last day of June the hottest day of 2015, so far.

People flocked to parks and beaches to enjoy the balmy (and in all likelihood, short lived) weather.

Today, temperatures will reach 25C in most parts, though there is a lot of cloud cover and a pesky band of rain currently making its way westwards. This band will spark showery rain in places, with a risk of thundery conditions in the northwest.

Tomorrow, Thursday, will begin dry in most places though showers will develop later in the day, more likely in the western half of the country. The east will remain largely dry.

Temperatures will be somewhat cooler than in recent days, with highs of 21-22C.

Heading into the weekend, the weather patterns are expected to be more changeable, so enjoy the warmth while it lasts.
