Yisrael Kristal, world’s oldest man and survivor of the Auschwitz death camp, dies within days of his 114th birthday

Yisrael Kristal, who survived the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp, has sadly passed away just days short of his 114th birthday.

Kristal lived through two world wars, and had recently been certified as the world’s oldest man.

Born in Poland in 1903, Kristal worked in the family confectionery shop until the Nazi occupiers took over the Jewish quarter where he lived with his wife and two children.

The entire family were subsequently sent to Auschwitz, where Kristal’s wife and children sadly perished. The brave Pole clung to life, and weighed just above 5lb when the camp was liberated.

He went on to marry again, and had two further children.

Kristal died on Friday, a month before his 114th birthday. He is survived by survived by two children, 9 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.
