A powerful earthquake has struck off the coast of Northern California at shortly before 9pm Irish time.
Shaken Californians have flocked to social media to report their experience of feeling the shaking caused by the magnitude 6.2 quake.
The National Weather Service’s Tsunami Warning Centre said in a tweet that no tsunami was expected from the quake.
Thankfully there were no immediate reports of major damage or injuries.
California is no stranger to earthquakes but there is lingering fear of the day the “big one” will strike the state.
