New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will not seek re-election and plans to resign no later than early February, she said in a televised statement.
General elections will be held on October 14, she said. “It’s time for me,” she told members of her party this evening..
“I just don’t have enough in the tank for another four years”, reports RTE.
“While I won’t be contesting the election, I know the issues that impact New Zealanders most will remain the focus of the government through this year and into the election,” she said.
Ardern says she still believed she’d win another election, but her popularity amongst anti-vax campaigners absolutely plummeted following severe covid restrictions.
They’re already posting on social media in delight in the news that Ardern’s reign has come to an end.
