Los Angeles Police Department have charged a 65-yr-old man for the murder of Bishop David O’Connell.
The man has been named as Carlos Medina and he is the husband of Bishop O’Connell’a housekeeper.
It’s understood police originally arrested the man after a six hour standoff. They recovered a number of shotguns during the arrest.
Bishop O’Connell was shot dead in his bedroom with a single shot to the chest. Emergency services did all they could to save him but sadly were unable to.
69-year-old Bishop David O’Connell, originally from the Cork area, had been serving the Catholic church in Los Angeles for over 45 years.
Bishop O’Connell was shot 1pm on Saturday in the 1500 block of Janlu Avenue in Hacienda Heights of the City with police responding within minutes.
They worked on the Irish man but sadly paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
