A potential super fight rematch between Ireland’s Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano in Dublin’s Croke Park was all but finished until developments on Friday night.
Taylor’s promotor Eddie Hearn said this week that it would cost three times as much to hold the event in Croke Park as it would to hold it on London’s Wembley Stadium.
There was reportedly a disagreement over some €500,000 to be paid for extra security for the event.
However, on Friday night, MMA star Conor McGregor has stepped in to make up the shortfall by offering to sponsor the event – something that if it went ahead would be an incredible gesture by McGregor and ultimately brilliant save for the historical homecoming fight.
Many people have criticised the Irish government for not stepping in to rescue the event in the first place, however it appears they no longer need to thanks to the below offer from Conor McGregor:
The extra security bill is 500k to have Katie Taylor fight at croke park? I will sponsor the event to see this happen.
