An Irish soldier serving in Lebanon has reportedly been killed, and another seriously injured after coming under enemy fire.
It is understood that the soldiers were on a two-vehicle convoy traveling to Beirut on Wednesday evening.
It is unclear who attacked the convoy.
The soldier who was killed in action has been named as 23-yr-old Private Seán Rooney. He was a native of Newtowncunningham, Co Donegal.
It’s understood he joined the Defence Forces in March 2019 and that his unit was the 27 Infantry Battalion in Dundalk.
Tributes have poured in from around the country for the young soldier.
