R&B singer R. Kelly has been convicted of extortion and sex trafficking in New York.
A jury of seven men and five women found him guilty today in federal court. They began deliberations on Friday afternoon.
An attorney for Kelly said his attorney was considering appealing and was disappointed with the verdict.
In this federal case in the Eastern District of New York, Kelly faced nince counts in total: one count of racketeering with 14 underlying counts, including counts of sexual exploitation of a child, kidnapping, sex trafficking, bribery and eight other charges. He’s accused of breaking Mann’s Act, a sex trafficking law.
The jury, made up of seven men and five women, began its deliberations on Friday afternoon.
The verdict comes 13 years after Kelly, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was acquitted of child pornography charges during a trial in Illinois.
